Tips for Sticking with Your New Year’s Resolution

Coming up with a New Year’s resolution is easy, but seeing it through to completion is usually not quite as simple. If you’ve got a plan to lose weight, be more patient, try a new thing in 2020, or any other goal, these tips for sticking with your New Year’s resolution should help you reach the finish line.

Start off small

True change does not happen so easily. It takes a lot of time and a lot of work, especially if it’s a complete overhaul of your lifestyle. The best way to get into the groove is to start small. Aim to go to the gym three times a week, then celebrate doing just that as a victory. If you treat enough small goals as big wins, it’ll create a snowball effect that leads to positive change.  

Don’t try to change too much at once

Some people make multiple resolutions once the new year rolls around. Taking on too many New Year’s resolutions at once may mean that you won’t complete any of your goals. Instead of trying to change so many aspects of yourself at the same time, focus on just a few of them. Diet and exercise are goals that might be interconnected, but you’ll have a hard time staying with it if your other goals include traveling more or being more outgoing.

Ask for help

Nobody said that you’d have to complete your New Year’s resolution all by yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for support from your friends and family in completing your resolution this year. Asking for help or accountability from time to time might even be a New Year’s resolution on its own.
